Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

What is Hashimoto's Thyroiditis?

Hashimoto's thyroiditis (inflammation of the thyroid gland) is an autoimmune disease. In Hashimoto's thyroiditis, the body mistakenly produces antibodies against the thyroid gland and is therefore an autoimmune thyroiditis. The malfunctioning of the immune system leads to the chronic inflammation of this organ - called Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Is Hashimoto's thyroiditis a hereditary condition?"Hashimoto's thyroiditis" is, unfortunately, not a rare condition. Women in particular are affected approximately 10 times more frequently compared to men. Although Hashimoto's thyroiditis is not hereditary (inherited), some people do seem to be more prone to developing chronic thyroid inflammation than others.Hashimoto's Thyroiditis was first mentioned in 1912 in the journal "Archive for Clinical Surgery" in an article by the Japanese pathologist and surgeon Dr. Hakanu Hashimoto. What are symptoms of Hashimoto's thyroiditis?About 75% of those affected do not know that they suffer from Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
Although Hashimoto's thyroiditis is diagnosed in only about 2% of the US population, it is estimated that approximately 8-10% of US Americans are already affected by this disease. Approximately 75% of patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis do not know that they suffer from chronic inflammation of the thyroid gland.
